Spring Term 2009
SPRING TERM 2009
The new term got underway on January 8th with snow in the playground as an added surprise. We welcomed several new pupils in various classes. The new 'Trim Trail', presented by the PTA, was installed in the grounds over the holidays and will soon be put to good use during breaks, lunch hour and PE lessons. Our designated charity this term is 'Comic Relief'. The afterschool 'Mad Science Club' continues this term and we hope to introduce some more afterschool activities and clubs as the days get longer this term.
On Friday 16th January children from Nursery to Year 4 had talks on Road Safety from the Bromley Borough Road Safety Officer.
Year 6 experienced a 'Victorian School Day' on Wednesday 21st January, as part of their History studies, with a role play session lead by the Freshwater Theatre Company.
v On Thursday 29th January Years 7-10 visited the Natural History Museum in London. The students visited different zones to help with research for their project work and took park in an 'Investigate' workshop.
School had to be shut on Monday and Tuesday 2nd and 3rd February due to the heavy snowfalls in the London area. The children were pleased to discover that there was still plenty of snow when school reopened.
There was an outing for the Senior School to the National Gallery in London on Tuesday 10th February at which the students were introduced to the works of Piero Della Francesca, Rembradt and Paul Delaroche. The students made sketches and explored many other paintings after the lecture, including Turner's 'The Fighting Temeraire' and Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'.
On Thursday February 26th, Reception and Year1/2 visited the Natural History Museum after the original visit had to be postponed due to the snow. They enjoyed two sessons, 'Explorers: Ourselves and other Animals' and a puppet show 'Jackie and the Beanstalk' with a food-linked theme.
The Year 5 and 6 School Journey to Bowles Activity Centre in Tunbridge Wells ran from Monday 2nd until Friday 6th March. The staff and children all had a great time despite the weather and the mud!
There were Open Mornings for prospective parents and pupils on Tuesday 3rd and Tuesday 10th of March. The mornings were well attended and the children always look forward to skipping lessons to show people around the school. Our Year 6 children did very well in entrance tests for selective schools and we are very pleased with a 100% success rate in entrance to Trinity and Whitgift Schools.
Budding runners took part in the Mayor's Cross-Country Run at Sparrow's Den on Wednesday March 4th and the Bromley Primary Schools' Cross-Country Run at Crystal Palace Park on Saturday March 14th. The children all did very well and represented the school admirably.
Friday March 13th was Comic Relief Day and students were allowed to come to school in non-uniform clothes, ideally wearing something red. Red noses were for sale in school and there was a cake sale at break time. All money raised went to Comic Relief.
Parent's Evenings are scheduled for Tuesday 25th (Senior School) and Wednesday 26th March (Junior School) so that parents can discuss the students progress with their form and specialist teachers. LAMDA choral speaking exams will be taking place during the day on the 26th for Years 1-6.
Term will end at midday on Wednesday 1st April following the Easter Sevice at St. John's Church and an Easter Egg Hunt organised by the PTA.
