29th January Senior Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Security for all children at the school is paramount and we do ask parents/carers delivering or collecting their child during the day, and those using Austen’s Club, to close the green gate behind them. Thank you.

On Tuesday 19th January students from Key Stages 3 and 4 visited the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery in London. They were introduced to the work of the pop artist Julian Opie, famous for his portrait work on the pop band, Blur. They also discovered the sculptured head made with five pints of blood by Mark Quinn and Dame Laura Knight, the first lady to be trained at the Royal Academy of Arts, as well as many other established artists. All responded well to questions by Alice, our tour guide and were inspired to sketch and copy some creative work of portraits displaying people in politics, literature and the Arts.
The display of work covered can be seen on the wall in the senior corridor near the Art room.

The PTA is to be thanked for the splendid outside classroom which has been erected in the Rose Garden. We have no doubt that it will utilised a great deal once the weather is a little warmer.

The school is also highly delighted with a new 42” flat screen plasma television for the Science room, which is to be installed shortly. This will be used in conjunction with a laptop and will enhance the pupils’ science curriculum. Again, we are very grateful to the PTA for purchasing this.

The school website is constantly being updated with ‘News’ i.e. Newsletters, lunch menus, forthcoming events etc. We do suggest that parents regularly ‘log-on’.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs. B.A. Hunter
